Are celebrities really just like us? Cars that cost six figures, private jet rides and diamond encrusted ensembles for daily wear would seem to belie that assumption. But one area in which celebrities are more down to earth is marriage — or, in many cases, the end of it.
The rapper Yung Joc, 31, has been married to his wife for 13 years. The couple has three children together. But, that has not stopped Joc from having a high profile relationship with a girlfriend on the television show “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.”
In divorce papers recently filed by Joc’s wife, she acknowledges that the couple has been separated since February of 2012. She is seeking both child support and spousal support.
Your divorce probably does not involve royalties and music publishing rights, and it is unlikely that your spouse is canoodling with someone else on a cable television show. But it very well could be that you married your school sweetheart at a young age and have since grown apart. This scenario is all too common.
Getting divorced in your 20s, 30s or even 40s can be a challenge. It may be that you have never been in a serious romantic relationship with anyone but your soon-to-be ex spouse. But it is better to make a conscious decision to untangle things now than to continue to live in an unhappy marriage. Celebrity or average citizen, moving on from a marriage that began in a youthful state of naiveté can be the right decision.
