Sometimes, it seems we Americans love to create our celebrity idols in order to tear them down. Gossip magazines and websites thrive on spreading rumors about the personal lives of Hollywood celebrities and politicians. Of course, divorce is always a popular topic of speculation, with the most famous celebrity couples seemingly always on the brink of separation.
Case in point: musical power couple Beyoncé and Jay Z. It seems like gossip sites have been predicting this marriage’s end for years. In the most recent example, In Touch Weekly has published a report on its website that the two have worked out a postnuptial agreement.
According to the article’s anonymous source, the couple signed a prenuptial agreement before getting married, and decided to draft a postnuptial version to take into account changes in their marital property and family. In the new agreement, the parents of a three-year-old girl are said to agree to split child custody of her and any future children 50/50.
Readers who assume that asking for a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement means your marriage is doomed should think again. Nobody gets married planning to get divorced, but having an agreement in place in case divorce does occur can give both spouses peace of mind. They can lay out what would happen ahead of time, and prevent much of the stress, worry and bitter arguments that divorce can cause.
However, with or without a pre- or postnup, it is possible to work out a fair divorce settlement, or, if necessary, get what you deserve in court. Anyone considering divorce should speak to a divorce attorney for more information.
