Few of our readers spend $1 million per month on living expenses. But those used to a certain level of wealth may indeed need $14,000 per month to feed their children, and use up $2,000 worth of stationary in that time.
Those are among the claims being made by a woman in her divorce from a hedge fund billionaire. The woman, who has custody of the couple’s three young children — with the help of four nannies — says that she needs nearly $1 million per month in child support.
She and her attorneys provided a monthly budget that included $300,000 for private jet transportation and $160,000 for “vacation accommodations.” Feeding the kids was divided into two categories: $6,800 for groceries and $7,200 for dining out.
In a filing contesting the child support request, the husband says most of the money would go to the wife, not the children. The filing claims the wife initially tried to get this money as alimony. Now she is trying to get the same amount and calling it child support, the filing contends.
The husband says he has paid all of the children’s expenses, except for a $450,000 request from his wife to take a 10-day Caribbean vacation with the kids. He says he provided $45,000 instead.
For her part, the wife says the $450,000 request was to replicate the standard of living the children were used to while their parents were together, as required by law in their home state.
High-income divorces can get contentious, given the large amount of wealth at stake. But all divorces are important, because they help determine the future of both spouses and their children.
