Singer Jewell may have the title for her next hit song. Call it, “Tender Undoing.”
Such are the poetic words that the 40-year-old artist used on her personal blog July 2 announcing that she and her professional rodeo cowboy husband Ty Murray are getting a divorce. The pair married in 2008 but had been together for 10 years before that. They have one child, a son Kase, born in 2011.
Some may find the turn of phrase used by Jewel to be on a par with the now-famous term “conscious uncoupling” coined by actress Gwyneth Paltrow. However, others may appreciate that the sentiment behind both expressions is one of wanting to make the separation go as smoothly as possible so that both spouses can move on to the next chapter of their lives.
Regardless of how they proceed, you can be sure that they will be relying on the help of attorneys, as any divorcing couple should.
Jewel said she opted to announce the divorce on her blog so that fans wouldn’t hear about it first through the tabloids. In writing her post, Jewel described the experience as “infinitely strange.” But she went on to say that she has shared her words, thoughts and feelings in the public eye for more than 20 years and felt it was the right thing to do.
While calling the decision at once “enormous and heartbreaking,” Jewel said she and Murray reached it in the same spirit they came together. She said they both have always worked to live authentically while together and that they want the separation to be equally so.
She said the process of their “thoughtful and tender undoing” is one that has been underway for some time and was intentional. She said they both expect the split will allow them to redefine themselves and what they mean to each other with love. She said that will include their continuing to be friends and parents.
