Many dads buy things for their kids as form of child support

Though parents of either gender can be granted sole child custody during divorce, more often it seems that courts order custody for mothers, with fathers retaining visitation rights. This may be one reason we hear the term “deadbeat dads” more often than “deadbeat moms” or the more gender-neutral “deadbeat parents” when it comes to the subject of falling behind on child support.

People in the U.S. tend to wait longer to get married for the first time than their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents did. This likely is due to several factors, including the fact that more women work outside the home than in decades past and changing attitudes toward premarital sex.

After Supreme Court decision, same-sex divorce to be nationwide

A major decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, issued on June 26, found that it is unconstitutional to deny the right of same-sex couples to get married. The ruling effectively legalized same-sex marriage throughout the country, and solidified the law in states, such as New York, where these unions had already been legalized.
